How to Use the Hourly to Salary Calculator
How to convert hourly pay to salary
- Choose a direction. Hourly to salary turns your wage into a yearly figure. Salary to hourly does the reverse.
- Enter your pay. Type your hourly rate or your annual salary before taxes.
- Set your schedule. The defaults are 40 hours a week and 52 weeks a year. Change them for part-time work or unpaid time off.
- Add a tax estimate (optional). Open Advanced options and enter a flat percentage to see rough take-home pay.
- Compare pay periods. The results show yearly, monthly, biweekly, twice-monthly, weekly and daily pay in one place.
All amounts are gross pay before taxes and deductions, unless you add an estimated tax rate.
Formula & Methodology
Hourly to salary formula
Annual salary = Hourly rate × Hours per week × Weeks per year
Worked example
You earn $25 an hour, work 40 hours a week and are paid for all 52 weeks.
- Annual salary: 25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000
- Monthly: $52,000 ÷ 12 = $4,333.33
- Biweekly (26 paychecks): $52,000 ÷ 26 = $2,000
- Weekly: 25 × 40 = $1,000
- Daily (5 days): $1,000 ÷ 5 = $200
Salary to hourly formula
Hourly rate = Annual salary ÷ (Hours per week × Weeks per year)
A $60,000 salary at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 an hour.
The 2,080 rule
A standard full-time year is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. That is why $1 an hour is about $2,080 a year, and why many people quickly estimate yearly pay as "hourly rate × 2,000".
Unpaid time off
If you are not paid for vacation or holidays, lower the weeks worked per year. Taking two unpaid weeks off means using 50 weeks, which reduces a $25 an hour job from $52,000 to $50,000.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert an hourly wage to an annual salary?
Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by the weeks you work per year. At $25 an hour, 40 hours a week and 52 weeks, that is 25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 a year.
How much is $20 an hour per year?
At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, $20 an hour is $41,600 a year before taxes, about $3,467 a month. Use the calculator above to adjust the hours or weeks worked.
How do I convert a salary to an hourly rate?
Divide your annual salary by the number of hours you work in a year. For a full-time schedule that is 2,080 hours (40 × 52). A $60,000 salary works out to $28.85 an hour.
Why is the number of working hours in a year 2,080?
A standard full-time week is 40 hours and there are 52 weeks in a year, so 40 × 52 = 2,080. Some employers use 2,087 hours, which averages in the extra day in a 365-day year, but 2,080 is the most common convention.
Does the calculator include overtime or bonuses?
No. It converts a single, constant hourly rate. For extra hours paid at a higher rate, use the overtime pay calculator and add the result to your regular pay.
What is the difference between biweekly and twice-monthly pay?
Biweekly means every two weeks, giving 26 paychecks a year. Twice-monthly (semimonthly) means two fixed dates each month, giving 24 paychecks. Each biweekly check is smaller than a twice-monthly check, but you receive two extra biweekly paychecks in some months.
Is the result before or after tax?
It is gross pay, before income tax, payroll tax and other deductions. The optional tax rate applies a single flat percentage for a rough take-home estimate; it is not a substitute for a real tax calculation.
