How to Use the Age Calculator

How to calculate your age

  1. Enter the date of birth. Use the date picker or type the date.
  2. Leave "Age at the date of" as today to see how old someone is right now, or choose another date to see their age then (for example, a future birthday or a past event).
  3. Read the results. The exact age is shown in years, months and days, followed by totals in months, weeks, days and hours.
  4. Check the next birthday. You will see the date, how old you will be, and how many days are left.

All dates use your device's local calendar, so the result matches your own date today.

How Test Grade Calculation Works

How age is calculated

Your age is the calendar difference between your date of birth and the date you are measuring to, written as years, months and days.

  1. Subtract the birth year from the current year.
  2. Subtract the birth month from the current month. If the result is negative, take one year off the years and add 12 to the months.
  3. Subtract the birth day from the current day. If the result is negative, take one month off the months and add the number of days in the previous month.

Worked example

Born 15 March 1990, measured on 10 June 2026:

  • Years: 2026 − 1990 = 36
  • Months: June (6) − March (3) = 3
  • Days: 10 − 15 = −5, so borrow a month: 31 − 5 = 26 days (May has 31 days), leaving 2 months

Result: 36 years, 2 months and 26 days.

Totals

  • Total days = the number of calendar days between the two dates
  • Total weeks = total days ÷ 7, rounded down
  • Total hours = total days × 24

Leap years and 29 February

Leap years add a day, which this calculator counts. People born on 29 February celebrate on 1 March in non-leap years here; some places treat 28 February as the legal birthday, so rules can differ.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate my exact age?

Subtract your birth date from today's date, borrowing months and days where needed. For example, someone born on 15 March 1990 is 36 years, 2 months and 26 days old on 10 June 2026. This calculator does that for you from your date of birth.

How many days old am I?

Enter your date of birth and read the "Total days" result. It counts every calendar day from your birth date to today, including leap days.

How is age calculated for someone born on 29 February?

They have a birthday only every four years. In other years this calculator counts the birthday as 1 March. Some countries and organizations use 28 February instead, so the legal date can vary.

Can I find out my age on a past or future date?

Yes. Change the "Age at the date of" field to any date. This is handy for checking an age at an event, a school cut-off date or an upcoming birthday.

What is the difference between age and chronological age?

Chronological age is simply the time that has passed since birth, which is what this calculator measures. It is distinct from other ideas such as biological age, which describes how the body is functioning.

Does it account for leap years?

Yes. The totals use real calendar days, so leap days are included automatically. The years, months and days breakdown also uses the real length of each month.

Why does my age differ by a day in some other tools?

Tools that use the time of day, or that work in UTC rather than your local time zone, can be off by one day near midnight. This calculator uses calendar dates in your own time zone, so the result matches your local date.
